I work to incorporate an active lifestyle in all aspects of my life. Fortunately, I am someone who actually enjoys being outside and mowing my lawn.
Roughly a decade ago I invested in a Fiskar Push Mower soon after purchasing my first home. I thought it would be a cool and different workout / another way to stay active. I was right! I love it, it isn’t too hard to push as long as you don’t let the grass get too long.
Pros:
it is a conversation starter. You’d be surprised how many folks walking or even driving by when I’m using my push mower power than stop to comment on it. I also bring it up when yard work comes into conversations with friends and coworkers.
It is cheap to operate, it only requires your brute strength. After your initial investment you don’t need to use gas or electric to run it. The maintenance is also very low.
The blades of the Fiskar Push Mower‘s “stay sharp blades” truly live up to their name and they stay sharp. If you do accidently hit a rock or concrete with the blades, you can take a metal file and sharpen it up. I kept my first one for ten years before recently deciding I loved it so much I wanted to buy the same one again!
It makes you move and allows direct access to vitamin D! It does take more time to get the job done when using my Fiskar Push Mower, but I see this as more of a pro than a con. I don’t have as much time to sit around in front of the TV when I am outside mowing. I also love feeling accomplished after finishing mowing my lawn and seeing my finished achievement.
Space saver – the Fiskar Push Mower takes up relatively very little space.
Cons:
You do need to mow more frequently to maintain your lawn. If your grass gets too long the grass mostly folds over onto itself and doesn’t cut. I did not own a gas-powered mower for the first seven years until one of my friends moved away and left me their gas powered, self-propelled mower. I use this a few times a year if I go on vacation for a length of time or am simply jampacked and need to knock out the mowing in under 30 minutes.
Probably not the best mower if you have steep hills, because it is fully manual, it might be an extra challenge to get up those hills.
That is really the only con that comes to mind. In fact, when trying to think of cons it only brought up more pros!
Summary
The Fiskar Push Mower is a life changer and a great active lifestyle addition. I’d highly recommend one if you don’t might putting in a little work.
